Free Salford days out to entertain the family this summer


The summer holidays are fast approaching – and if you’re a parent of school-age kids, you may be wondering how you can keep the sprogs entertained for a full five weeks without breaking the bank.

Never fear – we’ve rounded up the top days out that you and the family can enjoy for free this summer:

Bee Active – Lightoaks Park – Saturday 4th August

The Friends of Lightoaks Park would like to invite you, your family and friends to our annual Summer Family Fun Day ‘Bee Active’.

Come ready for action, creativity, fitness, live entertainment and adventure!

Fun day at Green Grosvenor Park – Saturday 5th August

Head on down to Green Grosvenor Park and enjoys stalls, side shows, donkey rides, bouncy castles, funfair rides and festival food – hosted for free by the Friends of Green Grosvenor Park.

Playday at Boothsbank Park – Friday 10th August

Enjoy a day of fun and play in the park with have-a-go-bowls, children’s arts and crafts, yummy cake decorating, Lancashire Wildlife Trust eco activities, food and refreshments- all free of charge!

Incredible Insects – Bridgewater Canal – Monday 20th August

If your children love creepy crawlies, head down to Bridgewater Canal to hunt for some special creatures.

Will you be fast enough to catch a fluttering butterfly or manage to surprise a shield bug? Come along and join in the adventure – you never know what you will find!

Free of charge and open to all ages, materials are provided – but bring a net if you have one!

The Lowry Open Day – Saturday 11th August

The iconic theatre venue will open its doors from 10am until 4pm for a day of free activities that enable visitors of all ages to explore the venue in a completely new way – why not take a tour around Media City while in the area?
