Salford Credit Union Recruitment opportunities

SALFORD CREDIT UNION- SEEKING VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR WITH FINANCIAL SKILLS

Salford Credit Union is a successful community financial organisation, providing accessible savings and affordable loans to our members, people who live and work in Salford and nearby. We have been providing ethical services for over 30 years, supporting our members to develop good financial management and avoid loan sharks and unaffordable credit providers. Like all UK credit unions we are a mutual cooperative, owned and run by members.

Salford Credit Union is governed by a Board of volunteer Directors who oversee and direct the work of the credit union, including the staff team, and who ensure the credit union is compliant with regulation. The Board has been recently refreshed and is looking to significantly increase growth of membership and improve our services- we want more people to be aware of what we offer so we can help them get better off.

The Role

We are looking for someone with financial/accounting skills and experience to join our Board to help ensure the credit union is financially robust and compliant and well positioned to develop fair and competitive financial services.

The position is unpaid but travel expenses can be paid. The Board meets monthly (third Tuesday 5-7pm) and also holds occasional training and strategy sessions.

If you live or work in Salford or North Manchester and can offer energy and commitment to the role then we would love to hear from you. We have over 4,000 members and this role offers you the opportunity to help the wider community, to diversify your experience and keep people away from expensive and exploitative sources of credit.

This is an exciting time to join the team and use your skills to meet the challenges ahead and contribute to the development of Salford Credit Union. Training and support are available on all aspects of the role. Ultimately there could be the opportunity to become the volunteer Treasurer of the Credit Union.

All Directors need to be eligible for SCU membership (essentially live or work in Salford or nearby area shown on our membership map or be a member of Unison or Unite- NW region) – for info see https://www.salfordcreditunion.com/how-to-join-salford-credit-union/
